Needle Felted Celebrity Caricatures

Dial ‘M’ for Man in the Moon

My (slightly greenish) tribute to Alfred Hitchcock …in the moon.

“Good Evening”

We’ve been dyeing wool batting here in the studio and this very cool color of green came out of the pot. It was a small test batch and seemed to have a neon glow and I had to make another man in the moon.

I happened to have a couple of pictures of Alfred Hitchcock hanging on my wall of characters I’d like to needle felt and before I knew it, this man-in-the-moon was Hitchcock in the Moon.

My little tribute to Alfred Hitchcock is a really cool addition to my collection. He hangs on a string and slowly spins, observing the whole scene.

The wool batting I’ve been dyeing is the same wool I’ve been using for my core wool for years. It is a Merino X or Cross breed. I dyed some black for his suit. I used white merino prefelt sheets for his blouse and multi-colored merino roving for his hair.

I’ve posted about my very first needle felted Men in the Moon (or Mans in the Moon or Man in the Moons) I really don’t know how to say that one plural but anyway I have made several Man in the Moon needle felted characters. (that sounds better!) They are really fun to make and even more fun to display. Check them out Here.
